Choosing a Contractor
Four Things Worth Checking on Anyone
Not just us. If you are getting quotes from several companies, these are the questions that separate a licensed contractor from a truck with a magnet on the door.
Is the license current?
Ask for the number and look it up. A Florida certified A/C contractor licence starts with CAC. Ours is CAC033544. A company that hesitates at this question has answered it.
Do they pull permits?
AC replacement is permitted work. Unpermitted work is cheaper on the day and surfaces later, at a sale or an insurance claim. Ask who files it and whether the price includes it.
What exactly is warrantied?
Parts and labor are two different things. A ten-year parts warranty still leaves you paying someone to fit the part. Ask how long the labor is covered — ours is a full year on installations.
Will you see the price first?
Diagnosed, quoted, approved — in that order. If a company cannot commit to telling you the cost before the work starts, that is worth knowing before they are on the roof.
